Admins unable to edit my own User profile

Publish Date: Sep 24, 2025
Description

Note: Users are unable to edit their own User profiles and must get assistance from their System Admin to make changes.

There may be times when Administrators need to edit their own User Profile and change it from System Administrator to Standard User.

Resolution

If there are other System Administrators,  ask them to change your User Profile for you by following the steps below:

Salesforce Classic
  1. Click Setup | Administration Setup | Manage Users | Users.
  2. Find the User you want to edit.
  3. Click Edit next to the User's name.
  4. In the right-hand column of the User information, select your preferred profile type.
  5. Click Save.

Lightning Experience

  1. Click Gear iconSetup | Users | Users.
  2. Find the User you want to edit.
  3. Click Edit next to the User's name.
  4. In the right-hand column of the User information, select your preferred profile type.
  5. Click Save.

If there are no other System Administrator, the System Administrator can login and temporarily change a Standard User to a System Administrator, then with the 'Log In as Another User' feature (available from Enterprise Edition and above), System Admins can login as the new Admin and change their own profile by follow the steps described above.
