Add a Date Widget to Filter Dashboard Results Based on a Date
Use a date filter widget to allow dashboard viewers to filter the Wave dashboard results based on a selected date range. The range can use relative dates (like last month) or absolute dates (like 1/15/2016). For example, you can add a date widget to filter cases based on closed date to see cases that closed this month and last month.
The date widget requires a step that has a single grouping based on a date field.
The selection in this widget filters the results of other widgets with faceted steps. You can configure this widget’s step to accept single or multiple selections, and specify whether the selections are optional or required. You can also set an initial selection that applies when the dashboard opens. While viewing the dashboard, you can undo the selection or change the selection to filter the results differently.
To enable this widget to filter other widgets, you must enable faceting on its step.
Drag the date widget to the dashboard canvas.
To use an existing step for the widget, drag the step from the step panel and place on top of the widget.
If you don’t see the step panel, click the dashboard header to show it.
To create a step:
Click the button inside the widget to open the wizard.
The Select a Dataset screen appears, showing datasets in the most recently used order.
If you see a bar chart in the explorer instead, Wave selected the dataset that you used to create your previous widget step. To use a different dataset, close the explorer modal and click Create Step in the step panel.
Select the dataset that you want to apply the filter on.
Select the date field that you want to filter on.
If needed, click Filter to filter the results.
You can add multiple filters.
To add the step to the widget, click Create.
Wave adds the step to the steps panel. The widget shows the absolute date range, which spans from the minimum to the maximum values of the date field. Wave doesn’t apply any selections to the widget.
To change the widget and step properties, click the widget.
The Widget panel groups the widget properties into sections. So that you don’t accidentally overlook some properties, note that some sections might be collapsed, by default. To expand or collapse a section, click the arrow next to the section header.
Set the widget properties to customize the appearance of the widget.
When you set a property, the widget immediately shows the effects of your change.
To show and set the step properties, click Step in the panel.
You can configure this step to accept single or multiple selections, and specify whether the selections are optional or required.
To set the initial selections that are applied when a user opens the dashboard, click , and then click Pick Inital Filters.
You can make initial selections on any chart, date, list, toggle, or range widget. For example, you can select a bar in a bar chart and set that as the initial filter. If the underlying step for the bar chart is faceted, other widgets with faceted steps are also filtered based on this initial selection. While viewing the dashboard, the viewer can change the selection in the chart to filter the results differently or remove the filter altogether.
No selections are made in this widget when the user opens the dashboard unless you pick the initial filter. If the step is configured to require a selection, select the initial filter. Otherwise, the first value in the filter list is used.

To save your changes to the dashboard, click .
If you close the dashboard without saving it, you lose your changes.
