Why am I getting a '407 proxy authentication required' using Salesforce for Outlook?

When logging to SFO an error shows "unable to connect to Salesforce. The remote server returned an error (407) proxy authentication required. The remote server returned an error (407) proxy authentication required".
This error is received when a proxy server with a basic authentication is configured in Internet Explorer. It can be resolved by not using a proxy or adding *.salesforce.com and salesforce.com in the proxy server.
1. Security tab | Trusted sites | https://*.salesforce.com is added in there
2. Connections tab | click LAN settings | under Proxy server, do they have "User a proxy server for your LAN" checked off? If YES, de-select it and click "Ok" and then "Ok" again.
*Note: If user has to go through Proxy, and they have "Automatically detect settings" checked and also "Use a proxy server for your LAN" checked, then go to Step 3.
