How do I import values into a custom date/time field using the import wizards?

Resolution

When importing Date/Time values in Salesforce using the import wizards, you cannot format the cells using the 24 hour clock. The import wizard requires the AM and PM nomenclature in the field. Do this by formatting your date/time values in Excel with the syntax: m/d/yyyy h:mm AM/PM

In Excel, follow the instructions below:

1. Highlight the column in question

2. Right click and select the "Format Cells..."

3. Select the "Custom" option.

Note: If the importing user record's assigned locale is not English (United States) please refer to the Supported Locales documentation for the appropriate date/time format for your specific locale.

4. Place your cursor in the Type field on top of the list and add your supported locale date format followed by "h:mm AM/PM" so your entry matches the value example:  Locale: Dutch (Netherlands)  Date format: 28-2-2008 16:30 will use the format DD-MM-YYYY h:mm AM/PM

5. When done, click OK, and your column will be properly formatted.

Once you have done this, and entered the date/time values into your file, you will be able to import without problem.
