Why does my Portal (Community) user receive an Invalid Profile Association when attempting to login

Description

When this issue occurs, a Partner Portal or Partner Community user attempts to login, they are not able to login successfully, and the Login History for the portal user displays an "Invalid Profile Association" error. 

Resolution

This error happens because the portal user's profile is not associated to the portal that they are trying to login on.

To fix this issue, one can follow the steps below for the Partner Portal:

1. Navigate to Setup | Customize | Partners | Settings

2. Go to the detail page of the portal in question and add the user's profile to the list of profiles
 

To fix this issue, one can follow the steps below for the Partner Community:

1. Navigate to Setup | Customize | Communities | Manage Communities.

2. Click edit on the Community

3. Click Members and from there search for Portal Profiles and add the User's Profile from the list
