Does my username have to be my email address?

Resolution

If You are an End User:

A user's username and email address do not have to be the same, but it has to be unique because Salesforce does not allow duplicate usernames.

The username must be in the form of an email address (i.e. xxxx@xxx.com), but does not have to be a valid email address. To change your username or email, please follow these steps:

1. Click on:
Setup | Personal Setup | My Personal Information | Personal Information.
2. Click "Edit" to change your username or e-mail address.
3. Click "Save".

NOTE: Be sure that the email address that is associated with your user is a valid email, as this is the email address used to notify the user of new passwords and other important information.

If Personal Setup option is not available then alternate click path is

1. Click on :
Your Name | My Settings | Personal |Personal information
2. Click "Edit" to change your username or e-mail address.
3. Click "Save".

If You are a system admin:

1. Go to Setup| Manage users| Users
2. Click on your Name
3. Click on Edit
4. Make changes to the email address
5. Click on Save
6. You will receive the following message “To ensure system security, the owner of the new email address must verify this change.
When you click OK, an email will be sent to the specified address with directions on confirming this change.
Click Cancel if you do not want to make this change.”
7. Click on ‘OK’

User would then receive an email verification to confirm the change of email address.
