Unable to login to Chatter Desktop

ISSUE:

User is unable to login to Salesforce via Chatter Desktop after entering the username and password.  


User clicks on the login button after entering their credentials and the application takes user back to the same blank Chatter Desktop login page

Resolution

The issue could be related to the fact that Cookies are blocked in Internet Explorer, even if the default web browser is not Internet Explorer.

Follow the steps below to enable “Cookies” in Internet Explorer for all web sites.

Before you start configuring Internet Explorer (IE), close all your applications and then click on Start and type in %TEMP% and then delete everything in the TEMP folder


1- Close all your applications and then open Internet Explorer (IE) and click on Internet Options from the Tools menu at the top. If the Menu is not visible, click on the tool icon on the top right corner of your screen and click on Internet Options

2- Click on the Privacy tab.

3 - Ensure the slider is not set to “Block All Cookies”. You can click on the “Default” button and then close and reopen all Internet Explorer browser windows

4- Reopen Chatter Desktop to login.
 

To specify Cookies for only certain websites:

1- Close all your applications and then open Internet Explorer (IE) and click on Internet Options from the Tools menu at the top. If the Menu is not visible, click on the tool icon on the top right corner of your screen and click on Internet Options

2- Click on the Privacy tab.

3- Click on the "Sites” button to open the Per Site Privacy Options window

4- Enter the address of the website(s) that you wish to allow cookies into the “Address of website:” field (eg, *.salesforce.com, *.force.com)

5- Next, click on the “Allow” button.

6- Click on the OK to close the “Per Site Privacy Options” window.

7- Next click on the “Advanced” button.

8- Make sure the “Override automatic cookie handling” box is checked

9- Also make sure the “Accept” Radio button is selected for both “First-party cookies” and “Third-party cookies”.

10- Check the box for "Always allow session cookies

11- Now click on the OK to close the “Advanced Privacy Options” window. 

12- Finally click on the OK to close the “Internet Options” window.

Now Internet Explorer will remember the permissions set for your favorite websites and accept cookies.
