|Description||How to Import/ Update Account's by specifying the Record Type using the Import Wizard for Accounts/Contacts|
|Resolution||When using the Import Wizard to Import or Update the Account Record Type using the import wizard you need to choose the Record Type in the Step 2 of the Import Wizard for Accounts/Contacts. Then on step 5 choose to overwrite existing values, and be sure to map whatever field you're using for matching purposes. This updates the Account Record Type.
IMPORTANT: If the Account exists the matching criteria you choose (ID or Name) gets coupled with Record type so that is a really nice feature. Meaning if you have the same account name on two accounts with two different record types it chooses the right one to update.
Using the Data Import Wizard, you can choose to update existing records, but must use the Salesforce ID as the match. (Or you can use another external ID) You also need the record type ID or an error will occur when updating the record type using the name. Then you can map the fields accordingly, and the record type will update.
Please use the Data Loader or Third Party tools if you need to choose different Record Types when importing or updating the Accounts.
Note: Please perform a Data Export prior to performing any Data updates.
