How are Chatter Free users created by the "automated process" user?

|Description||Some customers who are using Chatter, may notice that some of their Chatter Free users are created by an "automated process" user, instead of internal Sys Admin users. An example of what this might look like in a customer org when looking at a Chatter Free user detail page is below:
Users records that are created by this "Automated Process" user are a result of Customer Invitations. Further information on Chatter Settings can be found here:
