Get started with Force.com IDE Project

Description Before you get started with Force.com IDE Project, you'll first want to make sure you follow the installation guide. Once you've got it installed correctly, we'll walk you through the process set up process.
Resolution

Create a new project

 
1. Go to File | click New.
2. Select Force.com Project.
3. Enter the following details:
  • Project name
  • Username
  • Password (Note: There is no way of logging in an org using Session ID in Force.com IDE)
  • Environment
  • Hostname - www.salesforce.com if logging into production org or demo org
 

Open the project using Force.com view

 
1. Go to Window | click Open perspective.
2. Select Other.
3. Click Force.com.
 

Search and replace any expression in an org

 
1. Go to Search.
2. Search entering the following details:
  • Text you want to search for in the org.
  • File name patterns - Click choose | Select the file extensions you need to search your text in.
    - If you need to search in reports, select *.reports
3. Click OK.
4. Select scope as workspace.
5. Click Search.

If you need to undo your changes, go to Edit | select Undo.

Be careful - If you hit "Replace", it will replace everything in the entire org without asking for confirmation.
 

Search and replace any expression in a file

 
1. Open the file where you need to find the expression
2. Click Edit.
3. Find/Replace by entering the following details:
     - Enter the text you need to find in "Find:"
4. Enter the text you need to replace your text with in "Replace With"
5. Select the direction and scope.
6. Select the necessary options.
7. Hit the Find button if you don't need to replace.
    - Click the Replace All button if you need to replace.

If you need to undo your changes, go to Edit | select Undo.


Save your changes to Salesforce

 
1. Open the file you need to save.
2. Place the cursor on the file contents
3. Right click, select Force.com.
4. Click Save to Server.


View your changes in Salesforce


1. Open the file you need to save to Salesforce.
2. Place the cursor on the file contents.
3. Right click, select Force.com.
4. Select Show in Salesforce Web.


Get the latest snapshot of the file in Force.com IDE from Salesforce


1. Open the file you need to get from Salesforce
2. Place the cursor on the file contents.
3. Right click, select Force.com.
4. Click Refresh from Server.


Create a backup file


1. Open the file whose backup needs to be created
2. Go to File | select Save As.
3. Select the folder where to save the file,  enter the File name.
