Site Favicon

Description The icon that appears in the browser's address field when visiting the site is called as favicon. This field is used to set the favorite icon for your entire site instead of for each page. Changes will be reflected on your site one day after you make them, due to caching.
Resolution
There are 2 different ways to upload favicon for your site.
 
Method 1:
1. Create 16x16 icon. Add the favicon as an .ico format 
2. Upload as a static resource and make sure cache control attribute is set as public 
3. Go to Setup>Develop>Sites and click on Edit for your Site.
In the Site Favorite Icon field upload the desired favicon.
 
Method 2:
1. Create 16x16 icon.Add the favicon as an .ico format 
2. Upload as a static resource and make sure cache control attribute is set as public 
3. Disable the standard header in your Visualforce page and reference the favorite icon static resource in your page as following: 
 
   <apex:page showHeader="false" > 
      <link REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="{!URLFOR($Resource.favicon)}"> 
         ..... 
   </apex:page> 
 
Here are some points to be noted with favicon,
 
a) If you observe a wrong favicon,
Delete Browsing History (on the Tools menu) to clear the cache and the history store and try again.
 
b) Bitmaps, pngs, gifs, etc, will not work.It must actually be a .ico (an Icon) file.
 
c) Setting the same favicon to all pages:
Set the favicon at the site root level.
 
d) Different favicon for every page on site:
Put a different tag on each page, pointing to a different icon.
