Salesforce for Outlook Side Panel error: "For best performance, please restart Microsoft Outlook."

Description When using the Salesforce for Outlook Side Panel, there is an error message stating: "For best performance, please restart Microsoft Outlook."
Resolution

** NOTE THE BELOW INVOLVES USING THE REGISTRY EDITOR**

If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. See the article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756 to backup the registry on your machine or ask one of your IT team members to perform the following tasks

Follow this steps to resolve this issue:

  1. Close Outlook and exit from Salesforce for Outlook.
  2. Back up Windows registry as per this article: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/ht/backup-registry-windows-7.htm
  3. Run 'main.reg' file attached.
  4. Running this file will add the following entry to your registry key: 
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION"OUTLOOK.EXE"=dword:000022b8
  5. When done, launch Outlook and Salesforce for Outlook and let me know if the yellow warning message in the side bar still persists.
