Spell Check Functionality

Knowledge Article Number 000181132
Description Customer wanted to enable the Spell check functionality for the Salesforce Standard and Custom Objects
Resolution

FEATURE RETIREMENT
With Summer ’16*, the Salesforce in-app Spell Checker service will no longer be available and customers are encouraged to use browser-based spell checking instead. See the Salesforce In-App Spell Checker Feature Retirement article for more details.

Spell checker is currently only supported with Text Area type of fields in Salesforce.

Following are few of the fields where you will see the spell checker enabled:

1. Notes & Attachments in Related list
2. Description field
3. Comments in Task/Events

The Check Spelling button appears in certain areas of the application where text is entered, such as sending an email, or when creating events, tasks, cases, notes, and solutions. Clicking the button checks the spelling of your text.

NOTE: Spell Checker does not support all the languages that Salesforce supports.

You can confirm if it is enabled for your Org through :
  •  Non-Enhanced Setup - Your Name > Setup > Customize > User Interface - Check "Enable Spell Checker", "Enable Spell Checker on Tasks and Events" > Save

  • Enhanced Setup - Setup > Customize > User Interface - Check "Enable Spell Checker", "Enable Spell Checker on Tasks and Events" > Save

Moreover, most modern browsers provide a built in spell check feature or add-on, and Salesforce leverages these.
The best way is to enable it through your browser like for Mozilla, you can go to Tools | Options | Advanced tab | Check the option "Check my spelling as I type".

Including it for custom objects and fields is an idea which has been acknowledged by our higher Salesforce support, you can also promote this idea on the below link.
