How Are Opportunity Amount and Quote Total Price Calculated?

Knowledge Article Number 000181621
Description When looking at the standard fields "Amount" or "Total Price" on the Opportunity and Quote object respectively, it may appear that the value is off by a few cents if compared to a manually calculated sum of all associated Products.
Resolution The reason this occurs is due to how the Amount and Total Price fields are calculated.  First, the Total Price of each line item (Product) is calculated (ListPrice * Quantity * Discount).  Then, the un-rounded Total Price is then summed.  Because the un-rounded number is summed, there may be a potential discrepancy when comparing the value to a manually calculated result.  By summing the un-rounded figures, we ensure that the Amount and Total Price on the Opportunity and Quote respectively are precise and exact.
