Salesforce Certified Force.com Advanced Developer Overview

Description The Salesforce Certified Force.com Advanced Developer credential is designed for individuals who have experience developing custom applications using the programmatic capabilities of the Force.com platform.

To earn this credential, you must successfully complete each of the three components required for the Salesforce Certified Force.com Advanced Developer credential, in this order: (1) proctored multiple-choice exam, (2) programming assignment, and (3) essay exam.

When you are preparing for each component of the credential, we strongly advise that you attend the training courses, review the study material, and gain hands-on experience related to the topics covered on the exam, as recommended in the study guide. However, course completion is not a prerequisite when registering for an exam. Relevant hands-on experience developing applications on the Force.com platform is particularly important in preparing for the programming assignment component of the exam.

Step 1: Multiple-choice exam
  • Prerequisite: Salesforce Certified Force.com Developer credential; however, course completion and hands-on experience are strongly recommended
  • Format: 69 multiple-choice questions
  • Time allotted to complete the exam: 2 hours
  • Passing score: 73%
  • Registration fee: USD 400; retake fee: USD 200
  • Delivery options: Proctored exam delivered onsite at a testing center or in an online proctored  environment
  • References: No hard-copy or online materials may be referenced during the exam
  • Results: Provided immediately after exam submission as on-screen text and by email

Step 2: Programming assignment
  • Prerequisite: Certified Force.com Advanced Developer multiple-choice exam and Salesforce Certified Force.com Developer release exams
  • Format: Development of the programmatic components of an application using Apex and Visualforce to meet a defined set of business requirements in a pre-configured Salesforce organization. Dependent upon completion of the related essay exam (see step 3).
  • Time allotted to complete the assignment: 1 month; you should plan to spend a minimum of 20 hours within the allotted window to complete the assignment.
  • Delivery schedule: Offered quarterly based on the schedule available at http://certification.salesforce.com/schedules#completing-programming-assignment. Registration priority is given to candidates who have not yet had an opportunity to sign up for the programming assignment and essay exam. Currently, the wait time is six to nine months from completion of the multiple-choice exam.
  • Results: Provided by email, 6-8 weeks following exam submission, in combination with essay exam results.

Step 3: Essay exam
  • When registering for the programming assignment you will schedule your essay exam
  • Format: 3–5 short-answer essay questions related to the submitted programming assignment. Dependent upon completion of the programming assignment.
  • Time allotted to complete the exam: 60 minutes
  • Delivery options: Proctored exam delivered onsite at a testing center or in an online proctored  environment
  • References: No hard-copy or online materials may be referenced during the exam
  • Results: Provided by email, 6-8 weeks following exam submission, in combination with programming assignment results.

Upon earning this credential, you are required to successfully complete the Salesforce Certified Force.com Developer release exams to maintain this credential; release exams are published three times a year, one for each of the major product releases.
