Salesforce Certified Technical Architect Overview

Description The Salesforce Certified Technical Architect credential is designed for technical architects with experience in designing and implementing secure, high-performance, integrated technical solutions using the Force.com platform within the context of a client’s architectural landscape.

To earn this credential, you must successfully complete each of the three components required for the Salesforce Certified Technical Architect credential, in this order: (1) self-evaluation, (2) multiple-choice exam, and (3) review board presentation.

When you are preparing for each component of the credential, we strongly advise that you attend the training courses, review the study material, and gain hands-on experience related to the topics covered on the exam, as recommended in the study guide. However, course completion is not a prerequisite when registering for an exam.

Step 1: Self-Evaluation
  • Prerequisite: Salesforce Certified Force.com Developer credential; however, course completion and hands-on experience are strongly recommended
  • Format: 42 survey-style questions, designed to help you assess your experience with the platforms, technologies, and design patterns covered in the exam
  • Time allotted to complete the exam: 30 minutes
  • Registration fee: None
  • Delivery options: Non-proctored exam available online
  • Results: Provided immediately after exam submission as on-screen text and by email

Step 2: Multiple-choice Exam
  • Prerequisite: Salesforce Certified Technical Architect self-evaluation and Salesforce Certified Force.com Developer release exams
  • Format: 60 multiple-choice questions
  • Time allotted to complete the exam: 2 hours
  • Passing score: 63%
  • Registration fee: USD 500; retake fee: USD 250
  • Delivery options: Proctored exam delivered onsite at a testing center or in an online proctored environment
  • References: No hard-copy or online materials may be referenced during the exam
  • Results: Provided immediately after exam submission as on-screen text and by email

Step 3: Review Board Presentation
  • Prerequisite: Salesforce Certified Technical Architect multiple-choice exam and Salesforce Certified Force.com Developer release exams
  • Format: Presentation and discussion of the architecture solution for a hypothetical scenario and a customer case study
  • Time allotted to complete: 4 hours
  • Registration fee: USD 6,000 and includes two attempts
  • Delivery schedule: Offered periodically based on the schedule available at http://certification.salesforce.com/schedules#completing-review-board. Eligible candidates are notified via email when registration is available.
  • Delivery options: We encourage candidates to attend the review board in person. However, we do provide the option to present remotely. Please Open a Case with the Salesforce Certification team for additional information.
  • References: No hard-copy or online materials may be referenced during the exam
  • Results: Provided by email, 2–4 weeks following the review board presentation date

Upon earning this credential, you are required to successfully complete the Salesforce Certified Force.com Developer release exams to maintain this credential; release exams are published three times a year, one for each of the major product releases. In addition, successful completion of online and architect-level release-specific exams, and leadership contributions to the Architect community through activities such as speaking engagements, authoring opportunities, and serving as a review board judge may be required to maintain the Salesforce Certified Technical Architect credential.
