Delay in adding an email address in outlook 'To' field and displaying them in the Salesforce for Outlook side panel

Knowledge Article Number 000188462
Description After downloading the Salesforce for Outlook there has been an issue with the side panel. When an email address is added to the 'To' field it doesn't find the contact in the Salesforce side panel unless you click away and then click back or else copy and paste the email address back in.
To resolve the issue the user needs to configure the Internet Explorer settings as below :
1. Close all Internet Explorer browser windows.
2. Open Internet Explorers Internet Properties:
  • Windows XP: Click on Start | Run, type in inetcpl.cpl and press Enter
  • Windows Vista/7:  Click on Start and in the quick search box type in inetcpl.cpl and press Enter.  The Internet Properties box will open up.
3. Click on the “General” tab.  Under Browsing History click on "Settings".
  • The "Temporary Internet Files and History Settings window will appear.
  • Under the Temporary Internet Files section select the first radio button for “Every time I visit the webpage.”
  • Also, set the “Disk space to use..” to 150 and select OK.
4. Next, click on the “Security” tab and click on Trusted Sites.  Click on the “Sites” button and add
https://* in the “Add this website to the zone” box and select “Add” and “Close.”
5. While remaining on the “Security” tab and Trusted Sites option, under Security level for this zone, click on the “Custom level” button.
  • This will open the “Security Settings – Trusted Sites Zone” window.

6. Under Reset custom settings change the “Reset to:” drop down field to “Low” followed by click on the “Reset...” button.  When the warning box appears click on “Yes."
7. Stay in the “Security Settings – Trusted Sites Zone” window and in the Settings section scroll down until you see “Websites in less privileged web content zone can navigate into this zone” and select the Enable radio.

8. Now click on OK and YES if you get a warning message.
9. Next, click on “Privacy” tab.
  • Under the Settings section click on the “Sites” button and add the domain “” followed by “Allow”.
  •  Remaining in the Settings section on the "Privacy" tab select the “Advanced” button.  The “Advanced Privacy Settings” window will open.
  •  Check the boxes for “Override automatic cookie handling” and “Always allow session cookies” and click on OK
10. The next tab selection will be the “Connections” tab.
  • Under the “Local Area Network (LAN) Settings” section click on the “LAN Settings” button. If you DO NOT have a proxy server you will want to ensure that all boxes in this section are unchecked.  (You may need to ask your IT team if you have a proxy server – if you do have a proxy server.)   If you do have a proxy server, under the "Proxy Server" section you will want to check the 1st box and populate the "Address" and "Port" fields and select OK.
11. The last tab to check will be the “Advanced” tab.
  • Under the Settings section scroll down and find "Security." Check the “Allow active content to run in files on My Computer” box and if necessary uncheck the “Check for server certificate revocation” box.
12.Click on OK to close the Internet Properties window.
  • Now open Internet Explorer and click on “Tools” | “Compatibility View Settings”
  • Under the Compatibility View Settings section, add “” if you do not already see it in the Display all websites in Compatibility View section.
13. Click on “Close”.

14. Restart Internet Explorer.
