Live Agent chat window does not pop up in a new window when using Internet Explorer

Description
When using Live Agent in Internet Explorer, you might notice that the chat window does not pop in a new window, and it rather replaces the current window with a chat window. Additionally, a blank small window pops up and remains blank. 
Resolution
This issue happens when the domain you are launching the chat button from and our live agent domain, are in a different security zone.

Example

Domain where chat button is hosted: mydomain.com

Our Live Agent domain: salesforceliveagent.com

In order to fix this, you can follow these steps:
  1. Internet Options > Security > Local Intranet > Sites > Add
  2. Add your domain and the live agent domain.
  3. Restart IE
  4. Try again
