What is the difference between the 'Forecast Category' and 'Forecast Category Actual' on the "Customizable Forecasting: Opportunity Forecasts" Reports?
The Forecast Category Actual field is retrieving the real Forecast category on the Opportunity, while the Forecast Category column on the 'Customizable Forecasting: Opportunity Forecasts' report contains information on the Overridden Forecast Category.
To understand the difference between Forecast Category and Forecast Category Actual columns, ensure that the Forecast Category Overridden column is visible on the report.
Consider the following scenario for a particular opportunity:
Also consider the following Forecasting hierarchy below the CEO role
And that the opportunity is owned by the US TEST ROLE user.
If the Manager, SALES REP, goes and gets the forecasting category overridden changing it into "Commit" from "best case", the user will need to flag a checkbox called "Override my direct report's forecast category (Best Case)"
Looking at the report, with the hierarchy set as "US SALES DIRECTOR", the result will be
Three different records, one per "forecast owner".
The US TEST ROLE user will have the checkbox "Forecast Category Overridden" Not checked and both Forecast Category and Forecast Category Actual columns as Best case.
The Manager (SALES REP) that overwrote the value, will have the the checkbox "Forecast Category Overridden" checked and Forecast Category set as Commit, while the Forecast Category Actual will be set as Best case.
The Manager's Manager (US SALES DIRECTOR), will have the the checkbox "Forecast Category Overridden" not checked and Forecast Category set as Commit, while the Forecast Category Actual will be set as Best case.
If the US TEST ROLE USER overrides the forecasting category of the opportunity s/he owns, the report would not make any difference for anybody on the Forecast Category and Forecast Category Actual columns.
The forecast will appear as overridden, but the opportunity forecast category will change status automatically
and the report will look as follows:
As the value in the opportunity changed as well
Another scenario, is when the Opportunity Owner overrides a specific Product Forecast Category. This can be done while editing the Forecast for a particular Opportunity
The value chosen here will be displayed in the Forecast Category field in the report.
