FAQ: Customer Community Plus License

Knowledge Article Number 000206085
Description This article goes over Customer Community Plus License and difference between old and new license
Resolution

What is the Customer Community Plus (CCP) license?

The Customer Community Plus license is similar to a Customer Portal — Enterprise Administration license and is well-suited for business-to-consumer communities focused on managing customer support.

How is the CCP license sold?

The Customer Community Plus license is offered as member-based or login-based. For more details on the differences between login-based and member-based licenses, see our documentation on Community User Licenses.

How is it different from the Customer Community license?

The CCP license is more powerful than the Customer Community license. It provides:

  • Roles and Sharing
  • Delegated Administration capabilities
  • Reports and Dashboards (read only)
  • Tasks
  • Additional storage (1MB for login-based license; 2MB for member-based license)

Check out our documentation on Community User Licenses for a detailed list of features and comparison with other licenses.

My CCP license is really a Partner Community license under the hood. Why?

We started offering the CCP license in Spring’14. Customers who purchased this license got a Partner Community license with restricted use (contractual). When the license is provisioned, it shows as a Partner Community license.

As of November 10, 2014, we’re selling the new CCP License. This license is similar to a Customer Portal — Enterprise Administration license.

Can my company have the old CCP License. We need more seats. Shall I buy the old or the new CCP license?

You should buy the old CCP license unless you decide to swap from the old to the new CCP license.

My company wants to swap from the old CCP to the new one. How shall I proceed?

Contact your Account Executive to get the order for the new CCP license. Since this is a license swap, the old CCP will be deprovisioned right away. We suggest you request a 30-day courtesy order for the old CCP license to give you time to move users to the new CCP license.

What are the differences between the old and new CCP Licenses?

I want to migrate from the old to the new CCP. Are there any gotchas?

To switch an existing user on the old CCP license over to the new CCP license, you have to:

  • Re-create the user and ensure that his profile has access to the community. The user will receive an email notification and be asked to reset his password.
  • Re-create sharing rules based on the customer account roles - even if you create the new CCP user in the existing Partner account (new roles get created).
  • Update any system logic that references an old CCP user, profile, or account (self-registration, workflow, permission sets, Apex code, etc.)
  • Ensure that the new CCP profile has access to the same tabs as the old CCP profile.

Since you need to re-create the user, all Chatter history and profile information, as well as any record ownership, will be lost in this process.

How can I migrate a user from the old to the new CCP?

Let’s assume you’ve purchased the new CCP license and it was provisioned in your org. To move a user from the old CCP license to the new one:

1. Create the customer account.
2. Disable the user contact on the partner account.
3. Re-enable the user.
