Nothing happens when user clicks on the Authorize button after running Chatter Desktop

Description BEHAVIOR:
Upon the first attempt to authorize and log into Chatter Desktop, the user may see unexpected behavior after selecting the 'Authorize' button.

RESULT:

- The user may see a blank white screen return
- A response from the user's network may return in the Chatter Desktop log in page, as opposed to the standard Chatter Desktop User login page.

- Nothing may happen after clicking on Authorize


 
Possible Causes
 
- Internet Explorer settings
- An issues with the networks Single Sign On (SSO) integration (if this applies to your org)
- The Salesforce Local Object
- The Adobe Air Encrypted Local Store files.


 


 
Resolution
The following can be attempted to resolve most log in/authorization issues:
 
1) Reset and configure Internet Explorer settings using the Optimal Settings for Internet Explorer Browser Knowledge Article
 
2) Refer to the Unable to login to Chatter Desktop Knowledge Article
3) Navigate to the following paths and delete the SFDC folders: 

The Shared Local Object (SLO) folder -
*There should be 2 folders

 
Mac:
/[USER]/Library/Preferences/sfdc-desktop*
 
Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008
C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\sfdc-desktop*

Windows XP and Windows Server 2003:
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\sfdc-desktop*

 
 
The Encrypted Local Store (ELS) - folders -

Mac:
/[USER]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR/ELS/sfdc-desktop*

Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008
C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\AIR\ELS\sfdc-desktop*

Windows XP and Windows Server 2003:
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Adobe\AIR\ELS\sfdc-desktop*
 
4) You can also try to manually enter the URL in the connection settings
1. From Chatter Desktop Authorize screen Click on Add new Connections.
2. Type your name and the Login URL (example) https://na25.salesforce.com
3. Click Save
4. Click Authorize
