Error: The component can't be displayed because the field(s) you chose for the filter are unavailable

Description A previously working filter in a dashboard no longer works and the component is throwing an error message "The component can't be displayed because the field(s) you chose for the filter are unavailable."
Resolution It's because the user added a component report of an object that does not contain an equivalent field with the rest of the components.

To make it easier to understand below are steps to reproduce:
  • Create 2 different opportunity reports
  • Create a dashboard and use these 2 reports as the source report for components
  • Apply a dashboard filter based on the field stage
  • The dashboard with the filter applied will work fine because the field 'Stage' is present in both the components
  • Create a report on contact object
  • Add that as a source report for another component in the dashboard
  • Now try the dashboard filter stage
You will see the error message "The component can't be displayed because the field(s) you chose for the filter are unavailable". This is because one of the component in the dashboard is based on the contact records which does not have the 'Stage' field

Workaround is to either remove the component or the filter from the dashboard
