Opportunity Splits aren't transferred during an owner change for closed Opportunities

Description When changing Ownership of closed Opportunity, the Team is retained (even with box unchecked) and when you attempt to remove the Split for the previous Owner, users get the following message, "Can't remove a team member assigned to a split from an opportunity."
Resolution This is by design for Closed Opportunities. To remove the previous splits, use the API.

Remove previous splits API example

In Workbench, use: SELECT Id FROM OpportunitySplit WHERE OpportunityId [insert the Opp ID here]

This will show you all the Split Records for the given Opportunity. Find the previous Split and delete via either the API or UI.

NOTE: Opportunity Splits is available in Enterprise Edition and above.
