Global Search Behavior on URLs or website addresses

Knowledge Article Number 000220239
Description

Salesforce Global Search has migrated to a different search architecture. We'll go over what you can expect with the change related to searching for website addresses or URLs.

Resolution

Global Search won't return results if the person does a simple searches on domain for a website address or URL.  The person searching can include www. with search to return records.

As a workaround, a workflow rule can be created to remove "http://www." and store the domain value in a custom field. In example 1, store "abc-energy.com" in a custom field as a temporary workaround.

The following behavior is expected behavior; however, Salesforce R&D is working on an enhancement to improve the search experience for website addresses and URLs.

Example 1

This is assuming the record has indexed field with value: http://www.abc-energy.com

Global Search will return record for the following search terms:

  • abc

Global Search will not return record for the following search terms:

  • abc-energy.com
  • abc-energy
  • abc-energy.com*
  • abc-energy*
  • *abc-energy.com*
  • *abc-energy*

Example 2

This is assuming the record has indexed field with value: http://www.example.com.

Global Search will return record for the following search terms:

  • example

Global Search will not return record for the following search terms:

  • example.com
  • *example.com*
  • example.com*
