Work.com: Coaching - Why do I get an 'invalid object or field' error when customizing a coaching report type?

Knowledge Article Number 000220864
Description Why do I get an 'invalid object or field' error when customizing a coaching report type?
Resolution You are likely getting this error if you've added lookup fields for both the coach and the person being coached.  You cannot add lookup fields from multiple records of the same type.  In this case the object type is User and the records are the person being coached and the coach.

There are a couple of workarounds to consider:

Create a Joined Report
  1. Clone your existing report type and add your lookup fields for the person being coached and remove any lookup fields for the coach
  2. Clone your existing report type again and add your lookup fields for the coach and remove any lookup fields for the person being coached
  3. Create a joined report using the two new report types you created

Create Custom Fields
  1. Assuming your existing report type includes lookup fields on the person being coached you can create custom formula fields on the Coaching object to include the data you want
  2. Edit the layout for your existing report type and include those custom fields
As an example here is a formula that would give you the coach's role: Coach.UserRole.Name
