Manage External User Log in to community as User No Longer Works Since Summer 15

Description Since the Summer 15 release, many customers notice different behavior when using the login as community user feature on their contacts. Using Manage External User > Log in to community as user no longer logs in the user, but instead takes the user to the login page. Previous to summer 15, user would be logged right in and sent to home page.

Steps to repro:
1. Go to contact
2. Manage External User
3. Log in to community as User
4. See that you land on login page, not home page

 
Resolution There exist many possibilities for customers' setups, but the following scenarios capture a couple of the most common resolutions to achieve the functionality that existed previous to Summer '15.


If using standard functionality, try:
Check communities landing visualforce page for action, and if set to 'forwardToCustomAuth', check controller for method 'forwardToStartPage' and change action in visualforce page to this method. 
In community management -> administration -> pages, set community home to 'default'
In community management -> login and registration -> set login page to 'default'


When using custom visualforce (visualforce) pages for communities:
To see behavior from before summer 15:
In force.com site detail, set active site landing page to preferred visualforce home page.
In community management -> administration -> pages, set community home to 'default'
In community management -> login and registration -> set login page to login page
