Knowledge Article Number 000228063
Description I have a User that is currently setup with administrative permissions.  When I try to change their Profile to one that does not have administrative permissions I receive this error:

Error: This user is the default owner for articles created during case close. He must have the Manage Articles user permission.

Steps to replicate this error:

1. Setup Salesforce Knowledge see Setting Up Salesforce Knowledge and it's related articles for more information.
2. Make sure that while setting up Salesforce Knowledge you enable "Allow users to create an article from a case" and you populate the "Assign new article to" option with a user that has the "Manage Articles" permission.
3. Go to the user record of the user that you selected in the
"Assign new article to" option and change their permissions such that they no longer have the "Manage Articles" permission.
4. You will receive the error about the default owner for articles.

How can I resolve this error?
Resolution This error is caused by the Knowledge setting "Assign new article to" located under "Case Settings".  You will have to change the "Assign new article to" user to another user before editing the users profile.

Old User Interface:
Your Name | Setup | App Setup | Customize | Knowledge > Settings

Improved Setup User Interface:
Setup | Build | Customize | Knowledge | Settings

Steps to resolve the error:
1. Go to the Settings option for Knowledge, as per the click path above.
2. Click Edit, change the
"Assign new article to" user to another user and save.
3. Go to the user record of the user that you want to change the permissions on.
4. Edit their record removing the "Manage Articles" permission and save.  Notice you do not receive the error about the default article owner.
