Merge field {!Case.Thread_Id} is not displayed in Subject in the Feed view in cases

Description I have added the merge field {!Case.Thread_Id} into the subject of my email template but I cannot see the thread id in the subject when looking at the email on the Feed view in cases although it is displayed in the Outbound Email Message record.

Enabling the option "Insert Thread ID in the Email Subject"  under Email-to-Case settings doesn't make the thread Id to be displayed in the Feed view.
Resolution We have always wanted to filter out the reference ID in the feed view for the sake of presenting useful information. Before Winter '16, only reference IDs that Salesforce inserted via the checkbox "Insert Thread ID in the Email Subject" were removed from the subject in the Feed view, but with the Winter'16 release, also the reference IDs from the merge fields have been removed.
