"Exception thrown and not caught" when navigating to certain sections in setup using Internet Explorer

Description Some customers may have observed that they encounter an "Exception thrown and not caught" error when navigating to certain sections of Setup, such as Data Import Wizard, Searching in the quick find box, etc.,

When using the F12 Developer Tools, you would see the following in the console:

SCRIPT5022: Exception thrown and not caught 
aura_prod.js, line 1 character 27

Example # 1- Data Import Wizard:

1. Login to www.salesforce.com via IE (any version)
2. Go to Setup | Data Management | Data Import Wizard
3. You will see the following error:

Example # 2 - Quick Find Box

1. Login to www.salesforce.com via IE (any version)
2. Type some text in the Quick Find/Search box

3. Hit the "Enter" key or simply click on the magnifying glass, you will see the following error:
Resolution This happens when "Compatibility View" has been enabled on the browser, in order to resolve the issue simply disable Compatibility View by navigating to Tools | Compatibility View on your IE browser:
