How to change the email address for an Administrator in Sandbox

Knowledge Article Number 000233316
Description Salesforce Sandboxes utilize a process called "Boofing". This occurs within Usernames. Email Addresses and Passwords on Sandbox User records. This process adds an extension to the end of Usernames/Email addresses that renders them invalid. (eg: user@sandbox.com.dev, user =@example.com)

Due to the 'boofing' we apply, occasionally a System Administrator who has forgotten their password, will also be unable to receive Password Reset emails due to the email address being incorrect. In cases where a Sandbox only has a single administrator, this leaves them completely unable to access the Sandbox.

Resolution In these instances, a Case should be submitted with Salesforce Support. The Support Team can update these emails address without the need for a written request from a C-Level employee. This should only be used to match the email address to that of the active corresponding production user based on the username.

For Example:
Previous Email:  admin@sandbox.com.dev
Updated Address: admin@sandbox.com

Previous Email:  admin=company@example.com
Updated Address: admin@sandbox.com
