Error message: "You can't perform this operation with the selected user type"
|Knowledge Article Number||000240207|
|Description||Certain situations might arise when a user tries to perform some operations (i.e. update a record) that an error of 'You can't perform this operation with the selected user type' will show.
The error itself points to an issue, which you would not often be able to create yourself through the User Interface, but which can arise when you create workflows, use Process Builder or APEX.
The 'You can't perform this operation with the selected user type' error means that a specific type of User is trying to perform an action but isn't allowed, by permissions or license, to do so.
|Resolution||An example of where this can go wrong is when you would like to have a Task created from a workflow. When you define a Task in setup as part of Workflow and Approvals action, you may be able to choose a user with a Chatter Free license. When this workflow will fire, you would get above mentioned error as Chatter Free Users don't have access to Activities: Chatter User Licenses.
Another example, again with Task, would be to have the Task related to an object, for which the license does not allow access, like Case for a Chatter Plus licensed user.
You can use the Debug Log to find more info on what the issue might be related to for your situation: Debug Log Details
