Make Custom Object the Default Tab in Lightning Experience

Publish Date: Jul 4, 2026
Description

You can configure a custom object tab to be the default landing tab for specified apps when using the Salesforce Lightning Experience interface. When a user navigates to the app, the custom object tab you designate appears first. Note that this setting applies only to apps of type Lightning and does not carry over to Salesforce Classic. Your app must have at least two custom object tabs for one to be set as the default.

Resolution

Steps to Set a Custom Object Tab as the Default for an App in Lightning Experience

  1. Click the gear icon, then click Setup.
  2. In the Quick Find search box, enter App Manager and click on it from the results.
  3. Locate the app you want to configure, then click the dropdown arrow on the right.
  4. Select Edit.
  5. Click Navigation Items.
  6. Click on the custom tab you want to make the default, and move it to the top of the list.
  7. Click Save.
