When creating or viewing a report using the standard Contacts & Accounts report type in Salesforce, users may notice that Contact address fields appear to show values even though those fields are empty at the Contact record level. This behavior occurs because the standard Contacts & Accounts report type automatically inherits values from the parent Account record when Contact fields are null. Specifically, the Contact's Mailing Address fields display values from the associated Account's Billing Address, and the Contact's Phone field displays the associated Account's Phone value. This inheritance is specific to the standard report type and does not occur in custom report types built on the Accounts and Contacts objects.
Within a Contacts & Accounts Report Type, if a Contact field is null, the following field mappings apply:
This behavior is specific to the standard Contacts and Accounts report type. If you create a new custom report type on the Accounts and Contacts objects, this inheritance behavior does not occur.
To avoid this behavior: Create a custom report type on the Accounts and Contacts objects instead of using the standard Contacts & Accounts report type. Custom report types do not inherit Account field values for null Contact fields.
