When Salesforce Leads are created through the Web-to-Lead form and the Company field is left blank or not included on the form, the Lead record displays "[not provided]" in the Company field. This occurs because the Company field is universally required for Lead records in Salesforce. The Web-to-Lead system automatically inserts "[not provided]" as a placeholder so the Lead can be created successfully. The same behavior applies to the Last Name field.
When Person Accounts are enabled for your Salesforce organization, the Company field is no longer universally required. As a result, when a Web-to-Lead record is submitted without a Company value, the Company field remains blank (rather than showing "[not provided]").
This distinction is important for Lead conversion: Leads with a blank Company field are converted to Person Accounts, while Leads with a Company value are converted to Business Accounts.
If your Salesforce org has Person Accounts enabled and you want to restore the "[not provided]" placeholder behavior, you can create a Workflow Rule with a Field Update to automatically populate blank Company fields on Web-to-Lead records.
Navigate to the Workflow Rules setup:
