Rename and recreate a Microsoft Outlook .OST data file on the Windows platform

Fecha de publicación: Sep 22, 2023
Descripción

Email messages, Calendar, Tasks, and other items are saved on a server or your computer. When they are saved to your computer, they are saved as Outlook Data Files (.pst or .ost). For more information, please see 'Find and transfer Outlook data files from one computer to another' on the Microsoft Support site.

Just like any file, the Outlook Data Files can become corrupted. If you think your data files are corrupted, we show you how to repair or recreate them.

Typically, you can fix syncing errors by either renaming or recreating your Outlook Data Files. Review Salesforce for Outlook sync errors and explanations.

Rename and recreate a corrupted .OST file for Outlook 2010, 2013, and 2016

  1. Locate the .ost file.

  1. Click the File menu | then click Info.
  2. Click Account Settings then click Account Settings again.
  3. Click the Data Files tab.
  4. Click the data file that is set as the default.
  5. Click Open Folder (Open File Location for Outlook 2016)

  1. Rename the .ost file by right-clicking on the file and selecting Rename. We recommend renaming the file to ost.old.
  2. Press Enter on your keyboard.
  3. Open Outlook. Outlook should start to configure a new data file. This process can take anywhere from 10 to 60 minutes depending on your mailbox size.

Caution: While the new data file is being configured, make sure you don't open SFO or close Outlook.

When your mailbox has been rebuilt, you see the message, "All folders are up to date" in the lower right-hand corner.
