Attach animated GIF images in Marketing Cloud emails

To insert the animated GIF into the Marketing Cloud email body

1. Add Image Content within Content Builder by selecting Create > Upload > Content and selecting your GIF

2. Select Upload and Publish to publish the GIF
3. Once the GIF is uploaded to Content Builder, select the drop down and select Properties. Copy the URL from the details tab.

4. To insert the image in an HTML email, using a styling tag similar to the tag below:

Use the URL you copied in step 3 and replace the src attribute with the URL.

Considerations and exceptions

• The display of your animated GIF image, or image in general, will depend on the receiving subscriber's email server and the software they use.
• Microsoft Outlook 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, and 2019 do not support animated GIF images when composing or reading email. Outlook users must open the image in a browser for the animation to properly display.
• Microsoft Outlook 365 does support animated GIF images when reading email. The GIF image must have a non-zero delay rate to animate.
• The maximum file upload size is 5 MB.
• The GIF can be added to a Template Based Email by selecting an Image Block and dragging it into the email body
