In Salesforce, the following character and address limits apply to email fields in both Salesforce Classic and Lightning Experience. These limits are consistent across Group Edition, Professional Edition, Enterprise Edition, Performance Edition (Unlimited Edition), and Developer Edition.

Email Field Character Limits

These limits are hardcoded and cannot be increased. Visit the Salesforce Ideas Exchange to submit an idea or promote an existing idea to have this limit potentially increased in the future.

Limits When Using Email Action Buttons with Predefined Field Values

If the email is used with an email action button that has Predefined Field Values configured for To, CC, and BCC addresses, different limits apply:

  • Up to 1,300 characters per field
  • Up to 48 email addresses only
