Increase the Daily Single Email Message limit for your organization

This article explains how to request an increase to the maximum number of daily single email messages your Salesforce organization is allowed to send. The Daily Single Email Message limit controls how many individual emails can be sent programmatically via Apex or API using SingleEmailMessage. Some organizations may require a higher limit to support critical operational communications.

Note: The "Daily Single Email Message" limit is treated very similarly to the "Daily Mass Email" limit and is considered a "High Risk" feature by Salesforce Support. We understand that a limit increase may be necessary under certain conditions, but Salesforce Support uses extreme scrutiny when reviewing these requests and rarely approves indefinite increases.

Note: When using calls to alert internal Salesforce users, it's best to send them to the user's ID rather than to the user's email address. This helps preserve email limits in situations where a majority of the notifications are for internal Users.

Understanding Email Limits

The Daily Single Email Message limit governs how many single emails can be sent per day from your organization via Apex or API. This limit is separate from Mass Email and is reset every 24 hours. Exceeding this limit will prevent additional programmatic emails from being sent until the limit resets.

 

DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an email authentication method that allows a receiving mail server to verify that an email was sent and authorized by the owner of a domain. It works by attaching a digital signature to outgoing emails, which receiving servers validate against a public key published in the sender's DNS records. For indefinite limit increase requests, implementing DKIM in your Salesforce organization is required. See: Setting up More Secure DKIM Keys

When You Need an Increase

You may need to request a limit increase if your organization sends high volumes of transactional or operational emails and is approaching or exceeding the daily limit. Review the following considerations before submitting a request:

  • Requests are reviewed independently, taking into account the limit being requested as well as the business reason provided.
  • Increases will not be approved for Marketing purposes (New Product or Service Notifications, Sales Follow-Ups, and so on).
  • Requests for emergency scenarios may be considered for organizations with a high number of User Licenses (for example: Product or Service Outages or Emergency Customer Communications).
  • Requests are only considered for Production organizations. This limit will not be raised for Sandboxes under any circumstances.
  • In most scenarios, Salesforce Support will make the final decision on whether to approve or reject a Daily Single Email Message Limit increase.

Requesting an Increase

If you've reviewed all relevant documentation and still need to proceed, have a System Administrator create a limit increase request with Support and include the following information:

  1. Your Organization ID
  2. The number of emails being requested and how that number was determined
  3. The duration for which the increase is requested
  4. A detailed business case using the template below:
    • What kind of emails will you be sending? (An example email template would be helpful)
    • Is this for marketing?
    • Who will be the recipients? (Employees, customers, etc.)
    • Are recipients aware they are receiving these communications?
    • Is there currently a method to unsubscribe from these communications?

After your case has been received, Salesforce Support will review and respond to your request.
