This article explains how to request an increase to the maximum number of Controlling Picklist values allowed in your Salesforce organization. Dependent picklists filter values in one picklist based on another. For example, a Country picklist (controlling) filters the State/Province picklist (dependent) to show only relevant regions. The default limit is 300 controlling values, but organizations with extensive geographic or product hierarchies may need more.
Salesforce Support can assist in increasing this limit up to the maximum allowed value. The limit is available in Group, Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer editions. The default limit is 300 controlling picklist values, and the maximum limit is 500 controlling picklist values.
Before you submit a request, review the Salesforce documentation on how Dependent Picklists function, listed in Additional Resources. Requests should be based on your organization's specific business need and not simply for the maximum limit allowed.
This section explains how to request an increase to the Controlling Picklist values limit in Salesforce, and what to know before you submit the request.
If you have reviewed all relevant documentation and still need assistance with increasing this limit, have a System Administrator create a limit increase request with Support.
