Mobile Chat visitors getting disconnected

Mobile Chat visitors are experiencing unexpected disconnections during active chat sessions. This is commonly observed when the Idle Connection Warning Duration and Idle Connection Timeout Duration settings on the Chat Deployment page are set to values that do not account for mobile network instability.

Ratkaisu

There are two fields on the Chat Deployment page that can impact disconnects.

  • Idle Connection Warning Duration
  • Idle Connection Timeout Duration

The default value for these are 40 and 110 seconds, respectively. You can customize these values, but you want to be aware that mobile connectivity is not as stable as web-based, so you want to allow the visitor some time to reconnect should their connection become unstable.

Notes:

  1. The Idle settings in the Chat Deployment (Idle Connection Warning Duration and Idle Connection Timeout Duration) refer to the chat visitor's connection only, not to the customer's in/activity (the time elapsed since their last message). Customer Timeout Warning and Customer Timeout based on the time elapsed since their last message can be enabled and configured on the Chat Button Settings.
  2. Any custom values set for the Idle Connection Warning Duration or the Idle Connection Timeout Duration will be added to the base value of 40 seconds. This also applies to custom values below the default values of 40 and 110 seconds, respectively. So even if you set an idle connection warning or timeout duration of zero seconds, it will actually take approximately 40 seconds before the warning displays and the chat actually times-out.
