Configure custom output object for Maps Advanced

By default, Advanced Routing will create standard Routes accessible through the Maps interface. Additionally, Advanced Routing has the ability to create Salesforce records (other than Tasks or Events) that represent each visit. The steps below outline the process of configuring a custom object to be used as an Output Object for Advanced Routing.

Steps to create a new lookup relationship between the Output Object and the Maps Advanced Route Waypoint object.

  1. Open the Salesforce Setup menu and navigate to Object Manager.
  2. Search for and select the desired Output Object.
  3. Navigate to Fields & Relationships and select New.
  4. For Data Type, select Lookup Relationship and click Next.
  5. In the Related To dropdown, select the Maps Advanced Route Waypoint object and click Next.
  6. For Field Label and Field Name, you must format the values as shown below then click Next.
    1. Field Label = Maps Advanced Route Waypoint
    2. Field Name = WA_AdvRouteWaypoint
  7. Choose your preferences for steps 4 - 6 and click Save.


Steps to create a new Custom Event configuration for the Output Object.

  1. From Setup, enter Installed Packages in the Quick Find box, and then select Installed Packages.
  2. Click Configure next to the Salesforce Maps package.
  3. Select Routes & Schedule, then click + Custom Event.
  4. Select the desired Output Object and click Confirm. If you do not see the Output Object as an available option, toggle on View All Salesforce Objects and search again.
  5. Configure the settings as outlined in this article: Set Up Schedules to Include Custom Activities
    1. Please note: For Time Fields, you must select the Use Start DateTime and End DateTime options.
  6. Ensure the Enabled toggle is on and click Save.

Note: The above steps are not necessary if your Output Object will be Task or Event, as these are configured by default.
