Maps Travel Time and Distance proximity boundaries

To customize and configure a boundary follow the steps below.

Steps

1. Select a plotted marker on the map and select Set Proximity Center from the Actions tab.

2. Select Show Options in the sidebar on the left under Boundary to expand the boundary menu.

3. The Options list allows you to configure the boundary. There are several options available to customize the boundary:

  • Type: The shape of the boundary. Circle plots a straight-line distance boundary. Travel Time plots a boundary of the distance that could be traveled in the given time. Travel Distance plots a boundary of the roads that could be traveled for a given distance.
  • Radius: The radius of the boundary.
  • Address: The address box contains the latitude and longitude for the selected marker.
  • Opacity: The opacity of the boundary.
  • Fill: The color of the boundary.
  • Border: The color of the border.

4. Select Submit to load the boundary.
 

Technical Constraints

Plotting Travel Time or Travel Distance has certain constraints.

KML, Travel Time, Travel Distance		Circle: The practical limit for the radius is 16078 miles (or the equivalent length in kilometers, meters, etc.) A radius larger than 16078 miles will still plot, but it will cover the entire map.

Travel Time: The limit for the travel time is 330 minutes. Values near this limit will result in an "Unable to retrieve the service area" message in the lower right corner of the map.

Travel Distance: The limit for the travel distance is 621 miles (or the equivalent length in kilometers, meters, etc.) Values near this limit will result in an "Unable to retrieve the service area" message in the lower right corner of the map.
AddressShows the latitude and longitude for the given marker. Can be modified for a custom latitude and longitude.The practical limits for latitude and longitude are:

Lat: -90 to 90
Long: -180 to 180

Values outside these ranges will still plot, but not in a meaningful way. The boundary will not be drawn if the Lat or Long text is modified.
OpacitySets the opacity for the plotted boundary.Values: 0 to 100%
FillSets the fill color for the plotted boundary.Values: #000000 to #FFFFFF
BorderSets the border color for the plotted boundary.Values: #000000 to #FFFFFF



Note: Boundary sizes with the same distance setting may appear to be different in size. Depending on the location of the boundary on the map, Salesforce Maps boundaries may look bigger or smaller even if you use the same distance. Map projections represent a spherical body (such as the Earth) on a flat surface (such as a computer screen or printed page). Projections always have some distortion, the most common being the enlargement of objects near the top and bottom of the map. The closer to the top or the bottom, the greater the enlargement. For example, Greenland is around 836,000 mi² while Brazil is over three times that size at around 3,286,000 mi², however, Greenland appears larger on the map. The same effect happens with boundaries that are represented on the map. A circle boundary with a radius of 500 miles located at the top or bottom edge of the map projection will appear much larger than a circle with the same 500-mile radius located at the center of the map. Both circles accurately represent the 500-mile radius for their location despite appearing different in size
