Dedicated IPs

  • Clients with volumes above 250,000 email messages per month are required to have a dedicated IP address.
  • Each IP can services up to 2.5MM messages per day. Additional IPs must be purchased when this volume is exceeded.
  • If your account has only one IP, this is the default for every send and job, and therefore you cannot select a specific IP in a Delivery Profile.
  • Dedicated IP(s) and shared IP(s) cannot be configured simultaneously on the same Enterprise.
  • IPs can be shared across accounts on the same Stack.
  • Non-Salesforce IPs cannot be used to send with Marketing Cloud.

Private Domains

  • Allow sending domains to authenticate with SPF and DKIM.
  • Can be shared across multiple accounts on the same stack.
  • An account (MID) may have multiple private domains applied.

CloudPages Domains

  • CloudPages is used to publish web-based content.
  • Custom domains can be added for use by CloudPages upon request.
  • Can be applied to only one Enterprise at a time (regardless of Stack location).
  • Can be either applied to ONE or ALL accounts in an Enterprise.

Sender Authentication Package (SAP)

  • SAP includes Private Domain and a Dedicated IP, plus:
    • Account Branding - This modifies link and image wrapping and removes all references to the Salesforce Marketing Cloud in favor of your authenticated domain.
    • Reply Mail Management - This product controls the replies you receive from your subscribers. You can assign filters for out-of-office messages and manual unsubscribe requests.
    • SAP-specific CloudPages domain - The ‘cloud.[sapdomain] domain will be available for new cloud pages by default. Other CloudPages domains can be added upon request.
  • The SAP domain should be dedicated for use by Marketing Cloud.
  • Each MID can be configured with a single SAP domain only.
  • A SAP domain can be shared across multiple accounts on the same stack.
  • The dedicated IP can be opted out, when setting up a new Sender Authentication Package if there is not enough volume to support it, important to note, this forfeits your access to the dedicated IP included in the SAP SKU. Should you require a dedicated IP in the future, your AE will need to sell you an additional SKU.

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)

  • This does not help with Deliverability, it is for information security.
  • This encrypts information passed across the subdomains so only the intended recipient can access it.
  • Recommended for companies passing usernames, passwords, credit card information, etc.
  • SSL Certificates are used to encrypt web-based pathways (pages/links/images), not sending domains. Sending domains are configured with TLS encryption by default and do not need SSL.
  • One SSL will be used to secure one subdomain. For example, four SSLs would be needed to secure clicks, views, images, and CloudPage domains.

Notes on all above Deliverability Products

    • These cannot be changed once set up, you would need to purchase an additional configuration if a different one is needed.
    • To set up one of these, a SKU must be purchased, as there is configuration work needed on the Marketing Cloud side.
    • Once purchased, a new setup case will be created for you with the proper team, who will reach out to you via that new case. If you have not been contacted, please reach out to your Account Executive to confirm the provisioning was completed.
    • Having these types of authentication in place will help your deliverability, but it cannot guarantee inbox placement, as your sending habits also have a large influence on your sender reputation.

    What about DMARC?

    • DMARC reporting services are not currently offered through the Marketing Cloud, so there is no product SKUs that include these features, however, we can enable the use of them.
    • We have a recommended ‘Simple ’ DMARC policy, or if you have your own policy we can add these to the DNS of an Authenticated Domain that is delegated to us.
    • DMARC can prevent email forwarding. If you are having an issue with forwarded emails bouncing because of DMARC please review this DMARC Forward Reply Rewrite option.
    • Marketing Cloud sends from either a Private Domain or Sender Authentication Package domain will pass a standard DMARC check as outlined in the Requirements for a DMARC policy to pass for sends through the Marketing Cloud article.

    What about BIMI?

    • Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) is a new method to make it easier to get your logo displayed next to your message in the subscriber's inbox.
    • Marketing Cloud is not implementing BIMI at this time by default. If you have built your own BIMI string we can add it to the DNS of an Authenticated Domain that is delegated to us.
    • Current requirements can be found in the linked Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) in the Marketing Cloud article.
