Salesforce Maps users can build Marker Layers that work for a broad set of users while respecting the org's hierarchy, using a set of user-based filter options. These filters can be applied to any object with a lookup relationship to the User object.
Filtering by these options is done in the Field Filters section, or the Cross Object Filters section, of the Marker Layer builder.
Tip: You can plot multiple user-based queries at once to compare data for two different representatives.
If you have questions about configuring this for custom fields in your environment, contact support.
Navigate to the Maps Navigation Bar and select the Layers tab. Select a folder, click Create New, then select Marker Layer. For each option below: once the layer builder is open, add a Field Filter, select the relevant Lookup field, then choose Fixed or Variable as noted for that option.
Builds a Marker Layer that filters based on a user name entered when the query is plotted. After entering the name and selecting Continue, the user sees all records meeting the filter criteria.
Add a Field Filter on Owner ID (Lookup), select User ID in the second dropdown, choose Fixed, and enter the value :Dynamic. Note: a 'Dynamic' value turns the query into a 'Like' statement, so it can't be used to filter on encrypted fields — see this document on deterministic encryption considerations.
Displays records based on custom ownership rather than the standard Salesforce Owner. Use this when your org doesn't use the standard ownership model — for example, a "Lead Technician" lookup field to User, separate from the record owner.
Add a Field Filter on the custom lookup field, select User ID, choose Variable, and select User ID. Each technician running the layer sees only records where they're the Lead Technician.
Shows all records owned by the running user or anyone who directly reports to them. Requires the Manager field on the User object to be populated. Useful for a Sales Manager who needs to see their own open opportunities alongside their team's.
Add a Field Filter on Owner ID (Lookup), select User ID, choose Variable, and select DirectReportIds.
Expands on DirectReportIds: returns data for the running user and everyone below them in the Manager hierarchy, however many levels deep. A CEO running this filter sees nearly all data; a Sales Rep running the same layer sees only their own records — the results scale with where the user sits in the hierarchy.
Add a Field Filter on Owner ID (Lookup), select User ID, choose Variable, and select SubordinateIds.
Requires Account Teams to be enabled. Shows all accounts where the running user is a member of the Account Team - useful for large enterprise accounts serviced by a team where team members aren't the account owner.
Add a Field Filter on Account ID (Lookup), select Account ID, choose Variable, and select TeamAccountIds.
