What is the Salesforce Maps Connector for ArcGIS?

The Salesforce Maps Connector for ArcGIS allows you to view existing ArcGIS data in Salesforce Maps. Seeing ArcGIS and Salesforce data on the same map saves time and allows you to turn your data into actionable intelligence.

To use it, you need these licenses:
  • An existing Salesforce Maps license.
  • For Private Data, an existing ArcGIS Online license.
The Salesforce Maps Connector for ArcGIS can plot public ArcGIS data, and it keeps private layers secure by using the OAuth protocol.

The Salesforce Maps Connector for ArcGIS Interface

The Connector adds an additional option to the layer creation interface, ArcGIS Layer. Under the layers tab, hover over the New button and select ArcGIS Layer.

The ArcGIS Layer Window

The setup window provides Details, Click2Create, and Advanced settings.

Details

  • Name: Name your layer
  • Description: Describe your layer
  • ArcGIS Layer URL: Paste your full ArcGIS Layer URL here

Advanced

  • Automatic Refresh: Select an option to either Automatically Refresh According to ArcGIS Layer Setting, set the number of minutes for a Force Refresh Interval, or choose No Refresh.

The Info Window

After plotting the layer on map click the data points to see Info window. Info window shows details from the ArcGIS web map.

  • Detail: The info window shows data from your ArcGIS data.
  • Actions: Lists MapAnything actions you can take on your ArcGIS data.
    • Add to Route: Add this point to a route. Note that if you're adding a shape to a route, the latitude and longitude of the point in the shape you specify will be added to the route. See more information (link).
    • Set Proximity Center: Create a proximity boundary centered at this point. This functionality is typically used for creating Travel Time and Travel Distance Proximity Boundaries.
    • Click2Create: Click to create a Salesforce record. See Using Click2Create.
    • Take Me There: Mobile action - Opens your preferred mobile navigation app and get turn by turn directions from your current location to that marker's location.
    • Set Reference Point: Select to use the ArcGIS point to calculate drive time and distance to other Salesforce records.

The Sidebar

  • The Sidebar: In the layer legend, checkboxes to the left of each feature allows you to toggle them on and off.

Terminology

If you have used ArcGIS or other ESRI software before, you are probably familiar with the terminology. However, it's helpful to list it here for reference.

  • ArcGIS Online: A cloud-based mapping system that allows users to store, share, and plot geographic data online.
  • ESRI: Environmental Systems Research Institute. ESRI provides software solutions such as ArcGIS.
  • GIS: Geographic Information System. These systems allow users to plot and analyze geographic data.
  • Web Map: Web maps are interactive maps that visualize ESRI data in a web-based interface. These web maps can show multiple layers.
