Important limitations of the Maps Connector for ArcGIS

1. What is the maximum file size for a Hosted Feature Layer?

• Hosted Feature Layers of around 15 MB take considerable time to load. Expect long load times for files larger than 15 MB.

2. Does the limit of 15MB apply to the whole Layer or just one request to ArcGIS?

• The 15MB limit applies to the whole layer.

3. Can I edit my ArcGIS data from Salesforce Maps?

• No, data cannot be edited directly within Salesforce Maps. However, The Salesforce Maps Connector for ArcGIS can push Salesforce record data (new and updated records) to ArcGIS Server. Please see this article for more information.

4. With each request - is Salesforce Maps retrieving the ArcGIS data for the selected map section, or for the whole layer?

• Salesforce Maps will only return data based on the bounding box of the map when the layer is plotted.

5. Is it possible to configure the ArcGIS layer to be more performant?

• Separating and reducing the amount of data and information being requested in each feature/layer should improve the performance.

6. What is the timeout value for retrieving the ArcGIS data?

• The current timeout value is 30 seconds.

7. I have a feature collection in the form of a CSV file. Can I visualize this feature collection in Salesforce Maps

• Yes, but it requires a workaround. You must convert the CSV file to a hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Online. Moreover, the CSV file can have no more than 1000 entries. Once you convert the CSV file to a hosted feature layer, you can visualize it in Salesforce Maps.

8. Can I select ArcGIS points with Salesforce Maps drawing tools?

• No.

9. Do ArcGIS web map layers plot in Salesforce Maps mobile?

• Yes, as of Spring 2018. Users can display ArcGIS layers on mobile that do not require additional logins (i.e. to the ArcGIS Server).   

10. When does my ArcGIS connector token expire?

• Salesforce Maps allows users to generate a token, but it will never auto-reauthorize or auto-regenerate once the token expires. The token expiry frequency is defined on the ArcGIS side and we advise you to define it that way so it doesn't expire frequently. Otherwise, you will have to regenerate the token on the Maps side every time it expires (even if you have configured a recurring batch job).

11. Is ArcGIS Portal supported?

• Salesforce Maps does not directly support ArcGIS Portal. However, a workaround can be achieved by using the Service URL of the layer.

11. Can I use the Maps ArcGIS connector with the Educational (trial) ArcGIS online license?

• Yes, but there are some differences. The educational instance of ArcGIS needs to be logged-in in on the Template, as well as the Connector to work properly. Also, the authentication timeout for the educational instance is much shorter than for the paid instance.
