Error 'STORAGE LIMIT EXCEEDED' in Salesforce Sandbox

Fecha de publicación: Jul 6, 2026
Descripción

The STORAGE_LIMIT_EXCEEDED error occurs when Data and File Storage Allocations have been exceeded. See Monitor Data and Storage Resources to review your current usage.
Important: Data storage limits are not strictly enforced in production environments to help ensure business-critical data continues to be created despite exceeding contractual limits. If you receive storage limit exceeded messages in production, contact your Account team immediately — Support cannot increase storage limits in production.

In Sandboxes, Contractual Storage Limits Are Enforced

Going over either Data Storage or File Storage allocations causes the error when creating records or uploading files in a sandbox. Both limits must be maintained under 100%.
For example, if Data Storage is at 50% but File Storage is at 110%, the error appears for both record creation and file uploads. It is not possible to allocate available Data Storage to File Storage or vice versa.

Resolution Options

  • Delete existing data to bring usage below the provided limit. See this article on deleting unwanted data.
  • Refresh or create a new sandbox using a different license type with higher storage limits. See General Sandbox and Sandbox Storage Limits for details on sandbox types and their storage limits.
  • Full sandbox environments match storage limits available in production at the time of refresh.

If Production Storage Was Exceeded at Sandbox Refresh Time

If storage was exceeded in production at the time a full-copy sandbox was refreshed:

  1. Delete unnecessary or extra data in your full-copy sandbox to comply with contractual limits.
  2. Contact your Account Team to provision a storage increase in production, then match the new limits over to your full sandbox.

Note: Increases to sandbox storage levels beyond what is provisioned in production are against Salesforce policy and are not possible under normal circumstances.

If Production Storage Was Increased After Sandbox Creation

If your production organization's storage was increased after the sandbox was created, use the Match Production Licenses tool to sync the new storage limits to the sandbox without a full refresh:

  1. In the sandbox, enter Company Information in the Quick Find box, select Company Information, and click Match Production Licenses.

Note: During the sandbox preview window, the Match Production Licenses tool may not be available when the sandbox release version does not match production. If the tool is unavailable, log a case with Salesforce Support to request manual storage matching.

  1. Refresh the sandbox to bring over the new limits from production.
