Salesforce Files Connect is a feature that integrates Salesforce with external storage providers such as Microsoft SharePoint, allowing users to access and share files stored outside of Salesforce. However, Files Connect only supports files that can be opened through Microsoft Office Online applications (such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents).
Because PDF files are not part of the Microsoft Office (MS Office) 365 online application package and cannot be created or opened by Office Online apps, they cannot be previewed directly within Salesforce through Files Connect. This is a known limitation of the Files Connect — SharePoint integration.

Salesforce Files Connect — the integration that connects Salesforce with external storage like SharePoint — supports only files that can be opened via Office Online (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Since PDFs are not native to the Office 365 application suite, Salesforce redirects users to SharePoint to open them.
