When updating the Language field on the User object via Data Loader, you may encounter the error:
“Language: bad value for restricted picklist field”
This occurs because the UI labels differ from the API values required by Data Loader. The Language field uses LanguageLocaleKey (API values) rather than the display values seen in the UI.
To successfully update user language in bulk, use the correct LanguageLocaleKey values and follow the steps below.
LanguageLocaleKeyExample:
| Id | Username | First Name | Last Name | LanguageLocaleKey |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 005XXXXXXXXXXXX | user1@sf.com | User | One | de |
