Using the external survey link provides easy access to surveys for users outside your organization. However, users may encounter the following error when attempting to access the external survey URL:

Root Cause

This error occurs when the Guest Profile for the Experience Cloud site does not have the Create permission enabled on the Survey Response object. External survey participants submit responses as guest users, which requires the guest profile to have Create access to the Survey Response standard object. Without this permission, the survey submission flow cannot create a Survey Response record and fails with the error above.

Steps for Lightning Experience

  1. Click the gear icon.
  2. Click Setup.
  3. Enter All Sites in the Quick Find box.
  4. Click All Sites.
  5. Next to the site, click Builder.
  6. Click the gear icon.
  7. Click General.
  8. Under "Guest User Profile", click on the profile name.
  9. Click Edit.
  10. Under Standard Object Permission section, search for "Survey Response."
  11. Select Create. This will provide access to external users.
  12. Click Save.

Steps for Salesforce Classic

  1. Click on Setup.
  2. Enter All Sites in the Quick Find box.
  3. Click All Sites.
  4. Next to the site, click Builder.
  5. Click the gear icon.
  6. Click General.
  7. Under "Guest User Profile", click on the profile name.
  8. Click Edit.
  9. Under Standard Object Permission section, search for "Survey Response."
  10. Select Create. This will provide access to external users.
  11. Click Save.

Verify the Fix

After enabling the Create permission, ask an external test user to access the survey link and confirm the error no longer appears.
